Educational programme
The educational programme for the Culture Canon was launched at the National Library of Latvia in 2013. Its aim is to promote awareness of the cultural particularities included in the Latvian Culture Canon and to encourage more in-depth research into them, and the exploration of their connection with other Latvian cultural developments. The programme provides options to examine the treasures from different points of view and aspects, and also encourages thinking about the concept and meaning of such treasures in relation to our own lives. Participation in the programme can stimulate a sense of belonging to the Latvian cultural space as well as raise awareness of how Latvian history and cultural heritage form our country’s present day and what their influence is on current events, processes, issues and vision.
Educational programme events are organised in libraries and education institutions throughout Latvia, attracting appropriate audiences to creatively educational meetings with different public figures. The events include meetings with specialists who present an in-depth analysis of a particular cultural value included in the Canon, or whose creative contribution is part of Culture Canon; or who is indirectly related to one of the Culture canon treasures. In turn, anyone interested can use the colouring sheets created under the programme in individual work or educational activities.
